Keep Your Kids Warm This Winter with These Clothing Tips
We spend the summer months ensuring our children are protected from the sun and that they are covered in sunscreen. Now that winter is upon us, we need to act with the same level of caution, ensuring our children are warm and comfortable throughout the colder period. With that in mind, read on to discover some top tips on dressing your children and keeping them warm during the winter.
Go big – When you buy mittens, skates, boots, and winter jackets for your children, make sure you go big. This is important because clothing is going to be layered during the winter. When clothes are layered on top of one and other, things that fitted comfortably before can start to feel extremely tight. The issue with this is that effective insulation is prevented. Insulation works by trapping air in spaces or pockets in between layers. You need to ensure there is room for this air, which is why clothing in a bigger size comes recommended.
Wool is the best material – When it comes to outdoor materials, sheep have come up with the best solution. Wool comes highly recommended because it still keeps you warm when you are damp or even wet. Of course, it will not be as effective as it would be if it was dry, but it still does a good job. Wool also helps to move moisture away from your body. Merino wool, in particular, comes highly recommended because it won’t shrink in the laundry, nor will you experience the itching that you may associate with wool.
Wear wicking layers – The next parenting tip for those looking to keep their kids warm and snug during the winter months is to wear wicking layers. This is important because these layers will move moisture away from your body. After all, you are likely to sweat if you move around a lot, irrespective of the temperature. Frosty discomfort happens when moisture is present, which is why it is so important to look for materials that are going to move moisture away.
Avoid cotton – Dressing up your little one in cotton is not advised during the colder months of the year. Cotton is great during the summer months, as it can keep you cool. This is precisely why it is not advised during the winter. You don’t need us to tell you that it is going to be pretty unpleasant for your child if they are wearing clothing that is made from material that moves heat away from your body! So, do not dress your kid in cotton – keep it for the summer instead.
If you follow the four simple tips that have been mentioned above, you can make sure your child is warm and comfortable throughout the colder months ahead. You will also have peace of mind that your child is safe and protected from health hazards while they are playing outdoors with their friends. After all, kids seem to want to be outside no matter what time of year it is!
