When I decided to start a blog I was so confused and I had no idea where to go. There are so many bloggers who blog about blogging and there really isn’t one blog that explains everything. I had no idea what it meant to have a domain name or a hosting company. You might be having these same questions and I am here to help you! Blogging is such a fun way to connect with other people online, write about whatever your interested in and possibly making money. When I started my blog about a year ago, I signed up with a hosting company called Bluehost. I loved it in the beginning and it seemed like a good idea until I really started getting serious about blogging. Whenever I had a question for Bluehost, it would talk a half our to connect with someone on their live chat and they never answered my question or knew what they were talking about. It made blogging seem like such a complicated process when it really didn’t have to be. I recently switched to a great hosting company called SiteGround. I was having a huge problem with Bluehost because my blog wasn’t showing up, it wouldn’t let me load any pictures and I was just done with their horrible customer service! Some blogging friends recommended that I switch to Siteground, and I am so glad I did! They are so easy to work with. Their website is very easy to use, they respond to their live chat within minutes, and they walk you through EVERYTHING. To get started, click here! You will then want to choose a Hosting plan. If you are a new blogger just starting out, I would recommend doing the StartUp plan for only $3.95 a month. The GrowBig plan is if you have multiple sites and the GoGeek plan is for an e-commerce or larger websites. All three of these plans include a free domain registration which is amazing!
Another thing you want to think about before you start a blog is what you want to blog about. Maybe you are interested in cooking, crafts or travel. Whatever it is, you will want to come up with a name for your blog. I have a horrible time coming up with names so write a bunch down and pick one that stands out the most to you-that’s what I did! Once you decide on a name, you will click “register a new domain.” If you are switching hosting companies you would choose “I already have a domain.”
Once you get your domain, you officially own your own website. Congrats! I am so happy for your new journey. You will also see an extra services section. I would reccomend doing the Domain Privacy. It is only $12.00 a year and it protects your personal information. I don’t need people knowing where I live and I’m sure you don’t either!
Once you make your payment, SiteGround will send you a message giving you information on what to do next. If you have any questions or are super confused, click on the “live chat” and you can ask them anything. They are very helpful and won’t leave you hangin’! If you have any questions for me, leave me a comment or connect with me on social media! I would love to help you out.
